Mary Campbell and I departed Mazatlán for Isla Isabella at 7:00 AM.
Rich from Fellowship, another Valiant 42, was awake and sitting in the cockpit of his boat when we departed. He wished us well. His wife Lyn was still asleep. She had just returned the previous evening from helping friends returning their boat to Mazatlán. The woman on that boat had tripped on the dock and injured her arm which was now in a sling.
We motored all morning because the wind was light and almost on our nose. As the day progressed, the wind slowly clocked to the right and grew stronger in strength until it was blowing about 15 knots. We were able to motor sail under the jib and staysail for much of the afternoon and evening at between 6.8 and 7.0 knots.
We arrived at Isla Isabella at 21:36 in the dark and lowered the hook in the anchorage just to the right of the island. The moon was waxing and three or four days from being full, so visibility was good. Mary had anchored here twice before so was comfortable anchoring in the dark. There was another sail boat in the anchorage and we anchored just to the south of them near the location that Shawn and Heather recommend in their cruising guide. We had a calm night at anchor and slept soundly.
