I began the morning by listening to Geary’s weather forecast on the Sonrisa net from 7:45 to 8:00 AM. I then listened to the weather forecast on the local Bahia Escondido Cruisers net on the VHF radio at 8:00 AM. The conditions sounded fine for making the passage to Puerto Ballandra on Isla Carmen.
I departed Bahia Escondido at 8:30 AM. The skies were overcast. The winds on the passage were blowing from the North Northwest at between 12 and 20 knots. I was able to just carry the staysail close hauled which helped counteract the wind waves resulting from the wind. I arrived at Puerto Ballandra and had the anchor down just before noon.
There are three other boats in the anchorage. One is “Taiko” out of San Diego California. It is being single handed by Roy a retired man from New Zealand. He stopped by and we talked for about two hours. The second is “Iver” with no hailing port on the stern. It is being single handed by Mary. Roy said she was in her 60s or 70s. The third is “Sunshine Lady”.
On Saturday morning I plan to go north to San Juanico.
