We departed Alert Bay at about 9:00 AM.
We were overtaken by team "We Brake for Whales", the winners of the 2023 Race To Alaska. They were powering south on their way back to Bremerton, Washington. As then pulled along side, we were able to talk for a few minutes. We congratulated them on their win.
The passage from Alert Bay to Port Harvey was slow. Normally we travel at about 6.5 knots. However, we were fighting a 2 knot flood tidal current for much of the trip. The current reduced our speed to between 4.7 and 5.5 knots for the majority of the trip. We found some relief, by staying to the right side of the channel. The flood current was a little less forceful on the channel sides.
We arrived in Port Harvey at about 3:00. We anchored at the head of the bay adjacent to the fish farm. The anchorage is a little wind swept and bouncy, but it is secure. The bottom of the bay provides good holding for our 77 pound Spade anchor.
