I departed Annette Inlet at 9:30 AM. The morning was somewhat overcast and breezy. My speed varied between 4.7 knots and 5.2 knots for much of the morning. Eventually the sun came out and the afternoon was beautiful. I was able to hoist the staysail at about 11:00 and that increased my speed to between 6.0 and 7.0 knots. I suspect that I was also getting favorable tidal current while doing 7 knots.
When I reached the US border, I contacted US Customs and Border Protection using their CBP Roam app on my iPhone. Using the app I was able to report that I had crossed the border and provide all the needed information about me and my boat. After a CBP agent reviewed my report, she held a brief video chat with me over the CBP Roam app. She verified the information in my report. I learned that I needed to report any food I carried on board. I thought I only needed to report food that was not allowed such as poultry, meat, citrus, tomatoes, eggs, green onions, and the like. I know that my one remaining orange and three remaining tomatoes were not allowed. I ate them while underway before entering US waters. I learned that eggs were not allowed, so I discarded 16 of those. The CBP agent was friendly and helpful. After she completed the video chat, she granted me entry to the United States.
I arrived at Friday Harbor at about 2:30 PM. After checking in to the marina, I walked the short distance to the grocery store and replaced the tomatoes and eggs. I also stopped at an ice cream shop and got a cup of chocolate truffle ice cream. It was excellent. I miss having ice cream on the boat. My boat's freezer is not cold enough to keep ice cream.
